Cristina Tiljande, Social gender norms in body language: The construction of stereotyped gender differences in body language in the American sitcom Friends
For our final map, we chose to create two videos that showcase how some body language relates to gender in society’s view. We did this in the form of a parody of a nature documentary, with switched behaviours based on gender.

We started on making a map on our own body language. We discover that our body language was almost the same, while there’s a difference in how we’ve been told how to sit, stand and walk because of our gender. We then went outside to observe the passers-by on their body language. We both made a parody instructional video on how to sit like our gender and after the feedback we knew we had to be more specific in what our stand of point is.

The final first video shows a man exhibiting a body language stereotypically known as female. The second video shows a woman exhibiting a body language stereotypically known as male. We did this to better mock how ridiculous we find these stereotypes. We’ve been told to walk, stand and sit a certain way according to our gender.

We looked into traditional nature documentaries to mock those. We tackled the topic in a humoristic way, so the viewer is confronted in an easy way.
